Mussoorie is a colonial-era hill station established by the British in the 1820s, perched on a ridge at about 2,000 m. Its heart is Mall Road — busy, commercial, lively. But the real Mussoorie is Landour, the quieter upper cantonment where Ruskin Bond lives, with deodar lanes, old churches and legendary bakeries.
Come for the air, the views, and the walks — not for solitude on Mall Road in May.
From Dehradun: 35 km, ~1-1.5 hours. Dehradun (DED) airport is ~60 km. From Delhi: ~280 km, 6-7 hours by road, or train to Dehradun then taxi. From Rishikesh: 75 km, ~2.5 hours.
Best time: March-June (pleasant, peak crowds), September-November (clear views, fewer people — the sweet spot), December-February (cold, occasional snow, magical). Monsoon brings mist and landslide risk.
Budget ₹10,000-25,000 per person for 2-3 days including stay, transfers and meals. Day 1: arrive, Mall Road, Camel's Back Road at sunset.
