Rishikesh to Mussoorie

Two of Uttarakhand's most loved destinations sit just 75 km apart — the sacred river town and the Queen of Hills. Combining them makes for one of North India's best short trips.

Distance and route

Rishikesh to Mussoorie is roughly 75-80 km, about 2.5-3 hours by road via Dehradun. The route climbs steadily from the Ganga valley into the Garhwal hills, and the last stretch from Dehradun to Mussoorie is a beautiful winding ascent to about 2,000 m.

Taxis are the practical option; buses run via Dehradun with a change.

Why combine them

They are perfect opposites. Rishikesh gives you the river, yoga, aarti and spiritual calm. Mussoorie gives you cool hill air, colonial charm, Mall Road, viewpoints and Himalayan panoramas.

Doing both in one trip means you get the sacred and the scenic without a long journey between them — river to ridgeline in under three hours.

A 4-5 day plan

Days 1-2 (Rishikesh): arrive, evening Ganga aarti, sunrise yoga, Lakshman Jhula, Beatles Ashram, optional rafting.

Day 3: drive to Mussoorie via Dehradun (stop at Robber's Cave or Sahastradhara if time allows). Evening on Mall Road.

Days 4-5 (Mussoorie): Gun Hill, Kempty Falls, Landour's quiet lanes and bakeries, Lal Tibba viewpoint. Depart via Dehradun airport (1 hour) or back to Delhi.

Costs and best season

A comfortable 4-5 day combined trip runs roughly ₹14,000-28,000 per person including stays, transfers and meals. Best season: September-June. Mussoorie is cool year-round and can see snow in winter — magical but book ahead. Monsoon brings landslide risk on hill roads. We arrange the full circuit with a safe driver and vetted stays.
