Thirty kilometres past Mussoorie's crowds lies the hill station Mussoorie used to be — deodar forest, cold clean air, almost no traffic, and snow in winter.
Dhanaulti sits at about 2,286 m, roughly 30 km beyond Mussoorie on the road toward Chamba. It has no Mall Road, no ropeway queues, no crowds.
What it has is deodar and oak forest, silence, and genuinely fresh air. If Mussoorie in May makes you want to leave, Dhanaulti is where you should have gone.
From Mussoorie: 30 km, ~1-1.5 hours. From Dehradun: 60 km, ~2 hours. From Rishikesh: ~85 km, ~3 hours. From Delhi: ~310 km, 7-8 hours.
Best time: March-June (pleasant escape from the plains), September-November (clear), December-February (snow — the real draw). Monsoon brings mist and landslide risk on hill roads.
Day 1: arrive from Dehradun or Mussoorie, check in, walk Eco Park, sunset in the deodars. Day 2: early Surkanda Devi darshan via ropeway, forest walk, depart. Budget ₹9,000-18,000 per person for 2 days. Pair with Mussoorie for a 4-day hill trip, or combine with Rishikesh. We arrange transfers and quiet, well-located stays.
