Wayanad is a highland district in northeast Kerala, part of the Western Ghats, at 700-2,100 m. It is defined by spice and coffee plantations, dense forest, waterfalls and paddy valleys — greener and quieter than the tourist-heavy south.
It is a place for nature, slowness and clean air rather than sightseeing checklists.
Nearest airports: Kozhikode/Calicut ~65 km, or Kannur ~60 km. From Mysore: ~120 km through Bandipur/Nagarhole. Best time: October-May (pleasant); monsoon June-September is intensely green and waterfalls peak, but leeches and heavy rain are real.
Day 1: arrive, plantation walk, Pookode Lake. Day 2: wildlife safari early, Edakkal Caves, a waterfall. Day 3: Chembra trek or a slow plantation morning, depart. Budget ₹11,000-22,000 per person.
