Munnar Hill Station

Rolling emerald tea carpets, cool mountain air, and mist rolling over the Western Ghats — Munnar is Kerala's most beloved hill station, and the perfect cool counterpoint to the coast.

What Munnar is

Munnar sits at about 1,600 m in the Western Ghats of Idukki district, where three mountain streams meet (munnar means 'three rivers'). It was a British tea-planting hub, and endless rolling tea estates still define its landscape — some of the highest in the world.

The air is cool year-round, the greenery total. It is a place to breathe, walk and slow down.

Things to do

  • Tea gardens & Tata Tea Museum — walk the estates, learn the process, taste fresh brews
  • Eravikulam National Park — home to the endangered Nilgiri tahr; also the rare Neelakurinji bloom (once in 12 years)
  • Mattupetty Dam & Lake — boating, echo point, cool views
  • Top Station — the highest point, panoramic Western Ghats vista
  • Tea plantation walks & viewpoints — the real Munnar
