In January 2023, Joshimath drew national attention when land subsidence caused cracks in hundreds of buildings, leading to evacuations and a construction ban in affected areas. It is a genuine, ongoing concern rooted in the town's location on old landslide debris.
Tourism and the Badrinath route continue to operate, and stays function normally in unaffected areas — but we book only structurally sound, verified accommodation and stay current with official advisories. We would rather tell you this honestly than pretend it never happened.
