When you can't spare 10-12 days for the full Char Dham, Do Dham gives you the two most powerful shrines — Kedarnath, the Jyotirlinga of Shiva, and Badrinath, the abode of Vishnu — in a focused 5-6 day journey.
The full Char Dham is a 10-12 day commitment by road. For working professionals, families with limited leave, or those testing the waters before the full yatra, Do Dham is the ideal middle path.
It focuses on the two dhams most pilgrims consider the spiritual peak of the journey — Kedarnath and Badrinath — while skipping the longer detours to Yamunotri and Gangotri. You get the essence of the Char Dham in half the time.
Kedarnath — one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Shiva, at 11,755 ft in a dramatic Himalayan amphitheatre. Reached by a 16-18 km trek or helicopter. The most physically demanding and, for many, the most spiritually intense of the dhams.
Badrinath — the abode of Vishnu, at 10,170 ft, with road access right up to the temple. The colourful temple against snow peaks, the hot springs (Tapt Kund), and the last-village-of-India Mana nearby make it deeply memorable and far easier to reach than Kedarnath.
Together they represent Shiva and Vishnu — a complete darshan.
Day 1: Haridwar/Rishikesh → Guptkashi/Sitapur (drive through Devprayag, Rudraprayag).
Day 2: Drive to Sonprayag/Gaurikund → trek/pony/helicopter to Kedarnath. Night at Kedarnath or Guptkashi.
Day 3: Kedarnath darshan → descend → drive toward Badrinath side (Chopta/Joshimath).
Day 4: Drive to Badrinath. Darshan, Tapt Kund, Mana village. Night at Badrinath/Joshimath.
Day 5-6: Return drive to Haridwar/Rishikesh with a buffer for weather.
The helicopter version compresses this to 2-3 days from Dehradun.
For those very short on time or unable to trek, the helicopter Do Dham is efficient and gentle:
Helicopter slots are weather-dependent and in high demand — book well in advance.
